I'll Live I Promise You
Preview: "Severus, how long is it going to take for us to be honest with each other?"

"Seize her!" A cloaked Death Eater shouted. "The Dark Lord would like to see her." He added in a cackle.

The flash of swirling robes blinded Severus Snape. The next thing he knew he was holding onto Dyanel, his arm around her neck. Her grey eyes stared into his black ones; a look of reassurance visible from hers. She gulped, her eyes quickly changing to fear as if she were reading the thoughts around her. Snape turned her to face the Death Eaters, his wand at her chest.

"I'll take her to the Dark Lord!" He snarled.

He led Dyanel passed them, all were gawking behind their masks. Lucius was most shocked that he was not shielding Dyanel as in the past. He understood Snape's loyalties now. Severus felt his own arms tremble as he walked Dyanel down the hall toward Voldemort's chambers. It was making him sick, the fact that like Ember, Dyanel too accepted the person he was. They understood how he had condemned himself for his actions in the past and now Dyanel was willing to walk with him to what he believed to be her death. He could not understand how she could leave her children motherless, yet she was walking with grace. A part of him could not understand why she was not going into a panic. She stopped, her eyes with a warmth that shocked Severus to the bone.

"I forgive you Severus." She whispered, kissing his cheek. She handed him her wand, adjusted her robes and her hair. He watched in terror; her actions were as if she was ready to die.

He watched her walk through the doors. "Avada Ked-"

Severus Snape woke up in a sweat. His breathing was ragged and he had to look around to see if he was still home. He let out a sigh of relief recognizing his bedroom and the sound of Ember's breathing next to him. It was the sound of her breathing that calm Snape's nerves, he rolled to the edge of the bed; sitting up and leaning over. He stood up; dressing in his night robe and house shoes. He walked out of the bedroom, closing the door behind him. He padded down the dimly lit hallway and into another room that was lit up by a small candle. He walked over to a crib, listening on the deep breaths Isaak was taking as he slept. Severus smiled then; thankful his dream was just that.

He sat down in the rocking chair across from the crib; looking out toward the window. The images of the nightmare played throughout his mind. He was worried if it was possible it could be real. He quickly stood up, noticing Ember entering the room. She peered over the edge of the crib, then walked over to Severus.

"What's bothering you?" She inquired, taking his hands into hers.

Snape looked down at Ember. "Nothing." He looked toward the crib and looked at Ember. "I remember when I first decided to ask you to be my wife." He said, a small smile on his face.

Ember walked over to him, a frown on her face. "Severus, how long is it going to take for us to be honest with each other?" Her words slipped out of her mouth deliberately.

Severus looked away from her. "It was a dream."

Ember studied him. "Bad?"

Severus did not say anything. "Like the ones I used to have about my Death Eater tasks." He answered solemnly.

“And?” Ember pressed.

Severus shook his head. “It wasn't about you it was about someone else. ”

They looked at each other with a moment of concern passing on Ember's face. “Tell me.” She insisted.

Severus sighed. “It was only a dream.” Ember gave him a long, worried look. Snape took another deep breath. “Dyanel's killed by Voldemort.”

Ember had always been aware of her husband's affection toward her friend. It was the one thing he had told her from the beginning besides the fact that he was a Death Eater. She had never asked him of his days as a loyalist to Voldemort; it was something she felt he would tell her when he was ready. She was looking at him; his eyes searching hers for a response. “And the family?”

Snape shook his head. “I don't know.”

Ember let out a deep breath she hadn't realized she was holding. She took Severus into her arms. “ It was only a dream. I know you would be incapable of doing anything to put Dyanel in danger.”

Severus pulled Ember close to him. “You're right. I won't let this one become real, Ember. I have seen too many people suffer and if he were to return...” He trailed off, not wanting to think of the rest of that sentence.

Ember smiled softly at him. Snape leaned down and kissed the top of Ember's forehead. Ember closed her eyes, at this and she hugged him. “Let's go to bed before this little one decides to wake up.” She said with a grin.

Snape nodded, blowing out the candle and taking Ember back to their bedroom.

A few days later Dyanel was at the house visiting Ember. Snape had been in his study all morning, preparing his things for the upcoming school year at Hogwarts. Ember was sitting with her, Isaak in her arms. Dyanel had left Genesis and Adam with Remus; Ember had owled her wanting to talk. Dyanel was sitting in a threadbare couch, that looked like something Snape had kept during his bachelor days.

Ember served Dyanel some tea and sat down across from her. “Dyanel I know what you and Lily meant to Severus back at Hogwarts. I need you to talk to him; he's been having nightmares about himself.” She played with the hem of her robes as she said this.

Dyanel raised an eyebrow for a moment. “Oh?” She picked up her tea, taking a sip as if she hadn't expected this.

Ember looked Dyanel straight in the eyes. Dyanel closed her mind instantly, not wanting Ember's thoughts to enter it. She was giving the girl her privacy. “Dyanel, they're about you. He thinks his dreams are some sort of premonition of You-Know-Who returning and Severus will give you up to him as he had done with Lily.” Ember put her own cup of tea down now. She was staring at Dyanel as if she was challenging her.

Dyanel sat there frozen. She was not expecting to hear this from Ember. She knew of what was to come; it scared her though. The fact that Severus Snape was having the same dream. She studied Ember, waiting for her to continue with what she was saying. Ember did not press on the matter. She simply stood up, walking over to the hallway that Dyanel knew would lead to Severus Snape's office.

The door was slightly ajar and Dyanel could practically feel his agitated state. He had not want Ember inviting Dyanel over for this conversation at all. He was avoiding her at all costs. The dreams too real and too distinct. Severus opened the door wider and she was there as if she apparated to this very spot. He stared at her; those blue-grey eyes sympathetic as always. He allowed her in, figuring that he might as well get things over with.

Dyanel hesitated slightly before she spoke. “Promise me one thing Severus.” She turned around to look at him, closing the door. A part of him wanted to agree instantly, but the tone of her voice made he think otherwise. It had to be something dreadful. He looked at Dyanel, beetle black eyes wanting to look away, go back to playing with his anything but having this conversation with her. He took a seat in his study, the room was a bit stifling, even for him. He had been working on potions to pass the time. It was soothing for him, always had been. Dyanel sat down in front of him, leaning over the desk. “You have to promise me Severus that you will do it.” She declared.

Anything but this. He thought. Dyanel shook her head, he had forgotten she could break down his walls. “No this is all I ask of you. You have to do it. The dream needs to come true. If not my children will rely on me to fix everything and I am not allowed to do that. I want them to grow old where all of us are at peace. If I were to stay alive when Voldemort returns, then my children will have to hide. They will not be able to live their lives the way they should.”

Severus looked at her, desperate to get away. “This is what you ask of me? All these years I've already spent in torment and again I have to watch someone I love fall due to my hands? I cannot bare it Dyanel I mustn't. I cannot keep breaking myself.” He said.

Dyanel glared at him. "You think it will be simple for me? I have seen this world crumble and bring it back up so many times that for centuries I thought I would be alone forever. Your world has brought me something I cannot even begin to describe. I would not have my children or this life, but you must promise me Severus. Promise me it'll be you taking me to my end. I will not have it any other way." She insisted.

Severus stood up angrily, looking out his office window. “What if I can't?” He asked.

Dyanel walked over to him. “Then you will have failed me and the Wizardry World. My death will be a key role into the true end of your Dark Lord. That I can assure you.” She paused for a moment. “You and I are not the poetic heroes from stories of good versus evil Severus. We are the ones who give them what they need to go on.” She put her hand on his shoulder. “Promise me.” She whispered.

Severus closed his eyes. “I promise you.” He said with a nod.
